SS Manchester Inventor (I) (1902 – 1917)

dvdvd

The merchant British steamer SS Manchester Inventor was built in 1902 by Northumberland Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Newcastle. At the time of her loss, she was owned by Manchester Liners Ltd.

On 18 January 1917, on a voyage from St John, New Brunswick to Manchester, carrying general cargo, Manchester Inventor was captured and sunk by torpedo. She was lost 50 miles NW of Fastnet. The strike from a German U-boat captained by Carl-Siegfried Ritter von Georg thankfully took no lives.
