SV Isle of Arran (1892-1917)
The British merchant sailing vessel SV Isle of Arran was built in 1892 by Russell & Co. Ltd., Greenock. At the time of her loss she was owned by Thomas, R. & Co., Liverpool. She weighed 1,918 tonnes.
On 2nd February 1917, when on voyage from Buenos Aires to Le Havre with a cargo of maize, Isle of Arran was scuttled by a German U-boat captained by Friedrich Moecke, 100 miles south from the Old Head of Kinsale. Thankfully, there were no casualties.
