SS Drina (1913-1917)
SS Drina was a British passenger vessel built in 1913 by Harland & Wolff Ltd., Belfast. At the time of her loss a century ago, she was owned by Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Ltd., London.
Weighing 11,483 tonnes, Drina was the first merchant vessel to be requisitioned for use as a hospital ship.
On 1 March 1917, whilst on a voyage from Buenos Aires to Liverpool with passengers and general cargo, Trina was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat under the command of Otto Steinbrick, two miles West of Skokholm Island.
Sadly, 15 people lost their lives in the attack.
