SS Etal Manor (1916-1917)
Built by John Crown & Sons Ltd., Sunderland in 1917, Etal Manor was a British steamer ship used for transporting cargo. At the time of her loss during WW1, the vessel of 1,875 tonnes was owned by Tyne & Wear Shipping.
On 19 September 1917, Etal Manor was travelling on a voyage from Barry to Queenstown when she was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat seven miles SW of Hook Point, Waterford.
Sadly, six people lost their lives.
The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society has offered assistance for fishermen and mariners in need since 1839. The maritime charity provides help for mariners, retired seafarers and their dependants, through financial help including welfare grants, as well as assistance and support.
