The steam ship War Clover was a British cargo vessel built in 1917 by Harland & Wolff Ltd., Belfast. At the time of her loss during WW1, War Clover was owned by The Shipping Controller, London.
On 19 October 1917, the steamer of 5,174 tonnes was travelling on a voyage from Barry to Toronto with a cargo of coal when she was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat under the command of Robert Moraht. At the time, War Clover was 25 miles ExN3/4N of Pantelleria.
Sadly, 14 people lost their lives as a result.
