The Governor of the Bank of England agrees to become the Society’s Treasurer…

On this day, 28th May 1852, at the Society’s Annual General Meeting held at Willis’s Rooms, St. James’s, London, Thomson Hankey, Junr., Esq., Governor of the Bank of England, was appointed Treasurer: an office he held for 26 years until 1878.
