Antique Shipwrecked Mariners ‘Contributions Box’ (29/09/15)

We were delighted to recently hear from an antique barometer collector who has acquired a rare and splendid example of an antique Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners’ Royal Benevolent Society ‘contributions’ box.

It dates back to c1900 and features a lovely, detailed SFMS barometer manufactured by Dolland of London, along with a thermometer and it highlights at the top ‘Patron His Majesty The King’ with a sign at the bottom ‘There is Sorrow on the Sea’.
