SS Lisette (1899-1918)

SS Lisette was a British steamer of 895 tonnes that was built in 1899 by S. McKnight & Co. Ltd., Ayr. The merchant ship was owned at the time of her loss by the Yorkshire Coal & Steam Shipping Co. Ltd., Goole.

On 13 March 1918, the Lisette was travelling on a voyage from Goole to Honfleur with a cargo of coal when she was torpedoed without warning and sunk by a German U-boat under the command of Rudolf Stier. At time of the attack, the Lisette was located eight miles NExN from the Shipwash lightvessel.

Sadly, one person lost their life.

The Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society has offered assistance for fishermen and mariners in need since 1839. The maritime charity provides help for mariners, retired seafarers and their dependants, through financial help including welfare grants, as well as assistance and support.
