The Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners’ Royal Benevolent Society (Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society) has appointed Captain Justin Osmond RN as its new Chief Executive.

Captain Justin OsmondFollowing nearly 30 years in the Royal Navy as a Fleet Air Arm engineer, Justin has experience across various senior leadership and management roles, including appointments as the Commanding Officer of 1710 Naval Air Squadron (providing engineering support for all UK military helicopters across the world) and as Chief Engineer for Lightning II (the aircraft which will operate from the RN’s new aircraft carriers). Since leaving the Royal Navy he has been providing leadership support for some of the cyber challenges facing the Ministry of Defence, whilst also dedicating a significant portion of his time to the voluntary sector, including the Chairmanship of a charity supporting an orphanage in Uganda.

Married with three young children Justin lives in Chichester.  On appointment he said: “the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society has a long and distinguished history being one of the UK’s oldest maritime charities. It has been supporting merchant mariners, fishermen and their dependants in need for 179 years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve such a hugely important and frequently under-valued sector of UK society.”

Captain Osmond replaces Commodore Malcolm Williams, who is retiring at the end of March after 14 years in post.
