SS Baron Wemyss (1912-1917)
British cargo ship SS Baron Wemyss was built in 1912 by Dunlop, Bremner & Co. Ltd., Port Glasgow. At the time of her loss, she was owned by Hugh Hogarth & Sons Ltd., Glasgow.
On 7 March 1917, Baron Wemyss, whilst on a voyage from Huelva to the Clyde with general cargo, was sunk by a German U-boat under the command of Erwin Sebelin. The 1,605 tonne ship was lost 73 miles NW of Fastnet. Sadly, two people on board lost their lives.
