SS Wragby (1901 – 1917)
SS Wragby was built in 1901 by Ropner & Son, Stockton and owned by Sir R. Ropner & Co. Ltd., West Hartlepool at the time of her loss.
She was a merchant British steamer weighting 3,641 tonnes.
On 4 January 1917, on a voyage from Barry to Gibraltar with a cargo of coal, SS Wragby was sunk by gunfire by the German U-boat captained by Otto Launburg 45 miles of Cape Spartel. Luckily, there was no loss of life.
