Since 1851, the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society has presented annual Skill and Gallantry Awards to recognise the UK’s unsung sea rescue heroes, as well as those who have given outstanding service to the charity.
The 2025 awards were presented at Fishmongers’ Hall in October. For the full story, click here.
This award is given to Honorary Agents of the Society who have given outstanding and long service.
Rebecca Austin
Rebecca Austin, who has been an Honorary Agent in Grimsby since 2023, was presented with the Lord Lewin Award for case working. She conducts this work as part of her wider role as the Mission Port Officer for The Fishermen’s Mission and has been recognised for her dedication and consistently high standard of her casework submissions over the past year.
Richard and Linda Sadler
Richard and Linda Sadler, who have served as Honorary Agents in Tenby for the past six years, were awarded the prestigious Lord Lewin Award by the Society in recognition of their dedicated service and outstanding efforts to generate funds to support the charity’s work.
David Stearne
David Stearne was presented with the overall prize for the Society’s annual photography competition for his entry, ‘Standing on the shoulders of giants – to get the ultimate sea view!’, an incredible shot of a seagull perched on top of the Mediterranean Gull statue at Folkestone Harbour in Kent. The image also won the photographer a £1,000 prize voucher for photographic equipment.
